Latin America has been strong and overcome the crisis on the basis of a five-year period of economic growth and the emergence of a larger middle class between 2003 and 2008. This is the first time this has happened and implies the consolidation of the 'peripheral' economies in comparison with the 'central' economies.
On a complex economic scenario, the telecommunications market of Latin America has continued to grow in 2009 in both landlines (despite the fall in STB revenue, BAF, pay TV, data and IT continued to grow) and mobile.
